Rinkebyterrassen Nominated for “Construction of the Year 2021 – Residential”

ALM Småa Bostad and ByggVesta are proud to announce that Rinkebyterrassen has been nominated for Construction of the Year 2021 by Tidningen Byggindustrin in the Residential category.

The project’s roots trace back to 2003, when the City of Stockholm decided to rebuild and partially cover the E18 highway with tunnels — a bold urban development initiative to reconnect Kista and Rinkeby across Järvafältet, creating a new residential layer for the district. In 2013, ALM Småa Bostad and ByggVesta signed a collaboration agreement to develop housing on top of the tunnels. Since then, Rinkebyterrassen has grown into a complex yet inspiring project, with alternating blocks of condominiums and rental apartments built around a shared square enhanced by public art installations from the city.

The development gives residents the freedom to choose between owning or renting, reflecting Rinkeby’s diverse community and housing needs. The project’s planning and design were grounded in collaboration and local engagement — ByggVesta even conducted interviews with around 1,000 residents, which led to the creation of Yalla Rinkeby, a social enterprise for women.

Construction began in 2015, and together the partners have since completed around 600 homes, a large shared courtyard for play and gatherings, a parking garage, and a dedicated space for Yalla Rinkeby’s café and catering operations.

“It’s amazing to see the city’s and our shared vision realized. Rinkebyterrassen stands as a statement that ideas, commitment, and willpower can truly make a difference. The development is a visible symbol — for those who live there, those moving in, and everyone passing by on the E18,”
says Louise Eklund, Business Area Manager at ALM Småa Bostad.

“We’re incredibly proud to have contributed to creating this residential area on Rinkebyterrassen. It’s become a place where young people and families can find well-designed homes at fair rents, without compromising on quality or comfort. We’re especially proud of Yalla Rinkeby, which now serves lunch and catering from our beautiful premises. Rinkebyterrassen is one of the projects closest to our hearts,”
adds Jenny Jonsson, CEO of ByggVesta.
