ByggVesta’s climate goals approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

ByggVesta’s ambition is to help limit global warming to 1.5°C. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has now validated that the company’s Scope 1 and 2 targets align with the Paris Agreement and current climate science.

Driving technological innovation, focusing on the areas where the company has the greatest potential to reduce emissions, and engaging the entire project organization are some of the key strategies that will enable ByggVesta to achieve its climate goals; goals that have now been validated by SBTi.

“Having our targets validated is an important milestone in ByggVesta’s climate work. Limiting global warming requires immediate action, and SBTi plays a crucial role as a guarantor that our efforts are aligned with the latest climate research,” says Catarina Fritz, Acting CEO at ByggVesta.

ByggVesta has committed to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by at least 42% by 2030 (compared to the 2022 baseline). These scopes cover emissions the company can directly influence — primarily from energy use in its buildings — and include a commitment to measure and reduce indirect emissions (Scope 3) as well.

“The climate issue is urgent and must be addressed accordingly. We see it as closely linked to other sustainability dimensions. Work on energy efficiency, biodiversity, and social sustainability — such as improving safety and well-being among tenants, which often leads to lower turnover and less wear on properties — also helps reduce overall emissions,” says Alicia Åhlfeldt, Sustainability Strategist at ByggVesta.

The commitment to these science-based reduction targets provides a clear and research-driven direction for the company’s sustainability efforts. The ongoing work includes further energy efficiency improvements, solar panel installations, and AI-controlled heating systems in suitable buildings. A major focus is also placed on Scope 3 emissions, where ByggVesta has set a goal to halve emissions by 2030 (compared to 2015) in line with Sweden’s Construction and Civil Engineering Sector Roadmap.

“By partnering with organizations that share our vision of a more sustainable world, we’ve made great progress in recent years. We look forward to continued collaboration within the industry and with other stakeholders to reach our goals,” adds Alicia Åhlfeldt.

About SBTi: The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Its purpose is to enable companies to set science-based targets aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
