ByggVesta celebrates 75 years – bringing the industry together around the future of housing

Real estate company ByggVesta marks its 75th anniversary by hosting Future Living Summit – a forum that brings together stakeholders from business, academia, and politics to collectively shape the future of sustainable housing.

Since its founding in Linköping in 1951, the company has evolved from a construction contractor and developer of commercial properties into a long-term real estate owner focused on rental housing and student accommodation.

Today, ByggVesta develops, owns, and manages approximately 4,000 homes in growing regions across Sweden. The anniversary marks the next step: an expanded focus on new markets and strategic partnerships within sustainable housing. In this work, a sense of belonging will be measured and prioritised just as much as square metres.

“ByggVesta has changed significantly over the past 75 years, but our core idea remains the same: to create homes where people feel comfortable and want to stay. Now we are bringing that promise into a time that places entirely new demands on what a home must be,” says Jonas Jonsson, CEO of ByggVesta.

Social sustainability is one of the major challenges of our time. As AI reshapes where we work, recover, and connect with others, the home is becoming more important than ever – and the need for housing that fosters community, safety, and a sense of belonging is increasing.

For ByggVesta, the question of how housing can create a sense of belonging has always been central. It concerns how buildings are designed, how shared spaces are used, how property management engages with residents, and how people are given opportunities to build relationships in everyday life.

ByggVesta hosts Future Living Summit

As part of the anniversary, ByggVesta hosted Future Living Summit in Stockholm, where representatives from business, politics, and academia gathered to discuss the future of housing and urban development.

“We want to use this anniversary to ask a question we need to take seriously: are we building housing that creates a sense of belonging, or housing where people simply happen to live? That question is at the core of Future Living Summit – and one we are now taking from words into action together with like-minded partners,” says Jonas Jonsson, CEO of ByggVesta.
