History

ByggVesta was founded in 1951 by civil engineer Åke Eriksson in Linköping. During the 1950s and ’60s, the business focused mainly on construction contracting, but as the company’s financial position strengthened, more properties were gradually acquired. In the 1990s, ByggVesta’s commercial properties made up the majority of operations. As new rental construction ground to a halt in the late 1990s and early 2000s, ByggVesta’s board decided the company would resume developing residential properties for long-term in-house management. With a clarified focus on housing development, parts of the commercial portfolio were divested in 2005.

Since then, we have mainly targeted Sweden’s growth regions and student areas, where demand for new, attractive rental apartments is greatest. We kept building environmentally friendly rentals at reasonable rents even when subsidies disappeared and rental construction stalled in Sweden. Under CEO Jonas Jonsson, ByggVesta is well positioned for the times, delivering sustainable, safe, and affordable homes that contribute to a better society over the long term.
