Colonia I

Colonia I consists of eight beautifully designed buildings offering a total of 368 apartments: 4 shared apartments, 341 studios (25–37 sqm), and 8 two-room apartments (43 and 55 sqm). All homes feature parquet floors, white-painted walls, tiled bathrooms with floor tiles, and an open plan between kitchen and living room. Each apartment also includes a private storage unit and personal bicycle parking in the courtyard.

The area features six study rooms and a communal lounge that residents can book for gatherings, movie nights, or group projects. The lush courtyard offers free Wi-Fi, sunny spaces, and a barbecue area perfect for socializing.

In 2021, the Colonia neighborhood expanded with additional buildings housing 374 more apartments, a lounge, restaurant, shops, and other shared spaces — making the area one of Linköping’s most popular student housing communities near the university campus.

Designed with care for both the environment and affordability, Colonia I encourages residents to live sustainably and efficiently — saving both resources and money in daily life.

Campus Valla, Linköping

Linköping University’s largest campus, about 3 km from the city center. Home to nine departments, the university library, administration, and student services. Next door are a popular outdoor recreation area and Mjärdevi Science Park.

Location & Surroundings

Colonia sits in an unbeatable location by Campus Valla, two minutes’ walk to lecture halls and about 2.5 km to the city center. Everything campus offers, study rooms, cafés, libraries, and new friends, is just a short stroll away.

At Märkesbacken, Corson begins. It’s the main path through Campus Valla from Building C in the north to Campushallen in the south. It’s the route most students bike along to morning classes. Märkesbacken gets its name from the many colorful emblems students have painted on the asphalt.

Transportation & Transit

Linköping University sits in one of Sweden’s most expansive regions. 150 km south of Stockholm, Linköping and neighboring Norrköping are easy to reach via the main rail line and E4 highway, with two airports nearby.

Students and staff can travel directly between Campus US, Campus Valla, and Campus Norrköping with the Campus Bus. Regular city bus lines also stop just minutes from campus.

Shopping, Dining & Services

There are plenty of student pubs nearby. Beyond the student areas, Linköping’s nightlife strip Ågatan beckons.

Within the Colonia neighborhood you’ll find AutoMat, an unstaffed grocery store, plus a bike repair shop and a gym.

Additional grocery stores, a pizzeria, and more are within walking distance of campus.

Nature & Leisure

You’re close to great running trails, Linköping Golf Club, and the student fitness center Campushallen, making it easy to unwind after studies. In winter, head to the “Isovalen” – a 400-meter artificial ice track next to campus and Valla recreation area.
