ByggVesta to Develop a Residential Block with Rental Apartments in Forsåker

It’s now confirmed that ByggVesta will create around 275 rental apartments in the new Forsåker district, just south of Gothenburg. The agreement has been signed with the municipal company MölnDala Fastighets AB, which is leading the development of an area that for centuries housed a paper mill. The homes are planned for completion in 2027–2028.

The block will be located along Kvarnbygatan, which is being transformed into an urban thoroughfare linking the eastern and western parts of the area. The building’s lower level will house the area’s mobility hub, and just next door is the Mölndalsbro transit interchange – only an 8-minute commuter ride to Gothenburg. The location is also close to historic Kvarnbyn and the heritage industrial buildings where Papyr, a new experience destination, is taking shape. Along the rapids, additional residential blocks, lively public squares, and welcoming outdoor spaces will be created.

We’ve been involved in Forsåker’s development since 2013, so getting to build in the heart of the area now feels both exciting and meaningful. The block will sit above the site’s mobility hub, which places high demands but also opens new opportunities. We’re looking forward to realizing the vision and contributing sustainable housing in a place where people can live and thrive, says Jonas Jonsson, CEO ByggVesta

– We’re pleased to have signed an agreement with ByggVesta for more rental apartments that will improve access to housing in Mölndal. Forsåker will offer varied living options and become a powerful destination people will want to return to, says Bjarne Fjellanger, CEO MölnDala Fastighets AB.

Earlier this year, MölnDala Fastighets AB signed leases with a grocery store and the Mölndal City Museum, which will open in the neighboring building. One of the first steps toward realizing the plans is the ongoing reconstruction of Kvarnbygatan. After that, construction can begin, with homes planned for completion in 2027 – 2028. Additional housing providers involved include Kynningsrud, Nordr, and Jutabo (condominiums) and Wallenstam (rental apartments). In total, approximately 900 new homes will be created in the district.
