Student Housing & Rental Apartments in Kista

Valvik

The Kista Äng area is being transformed into a vibrant neighborhood with a mix of housing, student apartments, commercial spaces, preschools, and a school.

Welcome to Valvik

Valvik offers bright, well-designed apartments ranging from studios to four-room units. 91 rental apartments and 161 student apartments in total. Each home is thoughtfully planned with efficient layouts, modern design, and quality materials.

The first residents moved in during May 2024, and the entire block was completed and occupied by the end of the year.

Kista Äng is being transformed into a new district featuring a mix of housing, student residences, retail spaces, schools, parks, and public squares. According to the City of Stockholm’s development plans, the area will include around 1,300 homes and offer a blend of condominiums, rental units, and student apartments. With its proximity to services, public transport, and the renowned IT cluster alongside a wide range of businesses, Kista is becoming a dynamic hub with great potential for growth.

On the ground floor of Valvik, you’ll find a student lounge, grocery store, and café. The building also features a bike service and wash station, as well as a shared mobility hub with electric cars and e-bikes, making it easy for residents to travel sustainably and affordably.

Through our studen concept Live to Grow, ByggVesta places great emphasis on creating a sense of safety and community in our student housing. At Valvik, for example, you’ll find both a lounge and dedicated study areas designed for comfort and connection. Among the student apartments, we offer several “roommate apartments which are special three-room units with two equally sized bedrooms, perfect for two students to share or for a small family.

The property is owned by ByggVesta Fastigheter AB.

The architect’s thoughts on Valvik

The block is located by the main square of the area and is divided into a lighter and a heavier section. The heavier volume, constructed in dark brick, stands like a solid monolith at the end of the square. Carefully designed details accentuate the building’s base and top floors. Windows are set deep into the façade, reinforcing the idea of openings in a solid wall.

The lighter, plastered volumes that frame the other three sides of the block are also defined by a few simple, well-considered principles. Variations in plaster texture break up the façades into horizontal bands that visually tie together the different blocks within the neighborhood.

Area

Kista, Stockholm

Kista is an exciting district full of development and potential – one of the world’s strongest ICT clusters, with over 1,000 Swedish and global companies. You’ll also find cultural venues and easy access to green spaces such as Järvafältet, popular for exercise and nature. Kista is home to Stockholm University facilities, an award-winning library, and one of the largest malls in the Stockholm area.

Kista, Stockholm

ByggVesta’s properties in Kista are located in the newly developed area of Kista Äng, designed to foster vibrant urban living with a mix of housing and office spaces. The ground floors of the new buildings will feature public spaces such as cafés, shops, and other services. The neighborhood will also include new squares and green areas.

Transport and Public Transit

Kista Äng offers excellent transport connections. Within a few hundred meters, you’ll find the metro (tunnelbana), which takes you to the city center in under 20 minutes, as well as easy access to Helenelund commuter train station (pendeltåg). A bus stop right outside the buildings connects you to several bus lines serving Kista Centrum and large parts of northern and western Stockholm. The Tvärbanan light rail is currently being extended, initially from Bromma to Ursviks torg, and later extended further via Kista to Helenelund.

Schools and Education

Kista is home to several public and independent schools, as well as a high school and a university campus.

Thanks to its proximity to major employers, students and researchers in Kista have unique opportunities to collaborate with both large international organizations and smaller, entrepreneur-driven ICT companies.

Shops, Restaurants and Services

Kista Galleria is one of Stockholm’s largest malls, offering everything from shops, cafés, and a food court to cinemas and essential services. The ground floors of the new buildings in Kista Äng will also include retail and dining options, helping create a lively and safe urban environment.

Nature and Recreation

Kista offers a wide range of sports and recreational opportunities. Just around the corner lies Järvafältet, one of the county’s largest nature reserves, as well as Ursvik’s recreational area with trails for running, cycling, and skiing, plus rest areas with barbecue facilities. Nearby Husby has a swimming center with pools and water slides, and in 2020 a new outdoor swimming facility opened at Järvafältet, featuring two 25-meter pools, a teaching pool, a children’s pool, and large grassy areas for picnics and sunbathing.

Kistamässan is Stockholm’s second-largest exhibition center, hosting a wide variety of events every year, many focused on tech and IT, but also cultural and business events.
