Colonia II Wins the Student Housing Award

ByggVesta’s project Colonia II in Linköping has been awarded the 2021 Student Housing Prize. Five projects were nominated for the award, which was established by the Studentbostadsföretagen industry organization and presented for the first time.

The award criteria focus on innovation, sustainability, and design that meets the needs of the student demographic and supports higher education.

The winning student housing project provides students with a flexible living environment that encourages both studying and social interaction. Low energy consumption and multiple shared-use features give the project a distinctly sustainable profile.

“We are incredibly proud and happy to receive the Student Housing Prize. Our flagship project, Colonia II at Campus Valla, is the result of creative innovation and a long-term ownership perspective. Through collaboration between the entire ByggVesta team, the students, and our partners, we have created a modern campus community. Colonia is truly one of the student areas we’re most proud of — where social connection, safety, and sustainable living are at the heart of it all,” says Marit Appelgren, CEO ByggVesta Fastighetsförvaltning.

Jury’s Motivation

ByggVesta has, through its Colonia II project, created student housing of varying sizes and layouts with great flexibility for both study and social life, indoors and outdoors. The students’ needs have been carefully considered, resulting in shared and private spaces that meet their academic and social requirements.

The project’s commitment to sustainability is visible in everything from low energy use to shared amenities and well-designed meeting places.

All of this has been realized in a university-adjacent environment, where an existing student housing area has been revitalized with new neighbors, community spaces, and improved services. Students have been involved from the early design phase through to the management stage, ensuring a strong social dimension in the project.
