ByggVesta

The fact that we were awarded the Property Owner of the Year prize in 2008 was proof to us that we were on the right track.

The ByggVesta story

It all started in the 1950s, or in 1951 to be precise when Åke Ericsson, a building engineer in Linköping, founded ByggVesta to build the housing of the future. During the 1950s and 1960s the business concentrated on building contracting, but as the company became increasingly stronger financially, more properties were gradually acquired. In the 1990s commercial properties were the main business for ByggVesta. Because almost no company was building new rental apartments at the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, ByggVesta's board of directors decided that the company should start producing housing again, but this time under their own administration. With their focus on developing housing, the company sold off parts of their commercial portfolio in 2005. Since then we have mainly focused on the major cities in Sweden, where there is great demand for attractive rental housing. We were able to continue building climate-friendly rental apartments at reasonable rents even when state construction subsidies disappeared and the construction of rental housing in Sweden came to an abrupt stop. The fact that we were awarded the prize of the Property Owner of the Year in 2008 proved to us that we were on the right track. At year-end 2009/2010 ByggVesta's portfolio consisted of about 850 new rental- and student apartments in Stockholm, Malmö and Linköping. In addition ByggVesta has around 2000 building rights in the same cities as well as in Gothenburg and Västerås.
